The Supreme Court decision regarding Roe v. Wade is projected to be announced soon. Due to the magnitude of this historical moment, our (June) general body meeting has been adjusted to create space for our membership to reflect on, discuss, and respond to this monumental judicial decision.
We are proud to live in a state that affirms reproductive rights. If Roe v. Wade is overturned tomorrow, abortion will remain accessible and legal in Colorado. However, the future is uncertain and circumstances can change quickly.
The conversation about access to abortion, and a women’s right to choose, should require broad representation of Reproductive Justice issues. With Black women dying from maternity at disproportionately high rates, the conversation must include a woman’s right to choose, as well as her right to equitable health services and the right to live.
Join us for a conversation and a call to action regarding Roe v. Wade, reproductive rights, and medical equity for Black women. Our special guest will be Judge Glenda Hatchett, who will share her personal story regarding maternal health. She will also discuss the decision, and related policies moving forward. Additionally, Colorado State Senator, Janet Buckner, will be joining us. Senator Buckner has been a prime sponsor of maternal health legislation and will speak to the work she has been leading at the capitol. Our call to action will come from Civil Rights Attorney, Dani Newsum of Cobalt.
Thank you to our co-sponsors – ACLU of Colorado and Cobalt.
